I need help!

I have 2 children both with short first names. I would ideally like to have a short name for our 3rd child which is due towards the end of the year but cant really think of any that myself and my husband like.

I dont want to have one of those hideous celeb style names that in 10 years time is really chavvy but i also dont want to have a 'boring' name.

Ahhhh its so hard - please help!

How about a name that can be shortened rather than a straight forward short name? For example, Benjamin as a formal name but called Ben on an every day basis. I know that there are probably about 10 million little boys named Ben out there so my suggestion is more about the idea of shortening a traditionally longer name.

To be honest, I've always found choosing names and finding one that both my husband and I agree on very difficult. Especially for boys. Baby name books have never been much use to me either. For inspiration, I looked at a couple of websites and waded through page after page. In the end, I kind of chanced on the names we ended up choosing - we'd hear a name somewhere and we'd look at each other and say "that's a good name...."

Just had a thought - do you know which flavour you're having? That might help narrow the search down. Also, do you have any particular cultural, national or social leanings? For example, do you prefer traditional names to the more unusual ones, does your family come from a country where names are different, do you tend to use family names?

Thanks Creena. We dont know the flavour yet as am only 11wks3days but like to have a name picked out by the time we get to the 20wk scan so we can call baby its name straight away - iykwim.

Starting to build up a short list for girls as i had one we quite liked but am now having doubts about! I think we have a boys name but again that is all subject to change ;-)

Haha, my husband is quite basic when it comes to names.

I know what you mean MrsMoo. My wife keeps suggesting all kinds of weird names.I blame celebrities with all the fancy and obscure names they call their children.

I have a friend who has used acronyms ie; ASAP, RSVP and VSOP not sure if I like it or not. My 9 month olds initals if you put them backwards are BASE which one of my friends calls her. I am sure what ever name you decide on for number three he/she will be gorgeous!!
