We are waiting to hear about our daughter's school. Why does it take so long? Why does it vary from county to county? What can you do if you dont get the school you want?
It seems to have been forever since we chose the schools we wanted!!!

It might be a good idea to contact the Schools Admission Team at your local council. They should be able to at least let you know when you'll hear of the outcome. It can vary from council to council - did you get any booklets or leaflets with your application form? They sometimes include dates for decision announcements. If not, check your education authority's website - it should tell you there or at least give you contact details for someone who should know.
As for not getting in at the school you want, there should be an appeals process but again this will vary. If you've applied to a faith school, they normally handle appeals themselves and you may have to do something like write to the board of governors. The school will be able to advise you. If you haven't applied to a faith school, the education authority (via the schools admissions team) will operate an appeals process. Again, ring them or check their website for details.
I know how worryig and frustrating it can be trying to sort out things like this - I do hope you have some good news very soon! Fingers crossed for you!
